Brianna Mayfield, known as, Bre Cole, is from Detroit, MI and has been singing since she was little in church and school choirs. When Bre went to Belleville High School, she was apart of the Ambassador choir where they traveled and sung at a lot of different venues. For two years there, she was the section leader for the concert choir. She also had the opportunity to be apart of the theatre department for two years as well.
Her time at Belleville open doors for her to attend Eastern Michigan University, where she is currently studying Theatre Arts. During her freshmen year there, she joined a dance team called Overdosed on Dance. She felt that this was an outlet to challenge herself on a skill she lacked, which was dance. Bre states “Being able to overcome the fear of doing something I thought I couldn’t was the most tremendous thing for me, but it gave me a kick start with a new mindset of being able to overcome my fear,”
Her junior year, Bre joined I.M.A.G.E, which is an acronym for Inspiring, Movitating, Activists, Geared towards Education. I.M.A.G.E has helped her with her performance skills and shaped herself into becoming a better artist. Currently, she is on the Executive board as the Historian and this semester she is running for Vice President. Looking further down the road, when Bre graduates from Eastern Michigan, she plans to move to LA to start her career as an upcoming singer and actress.
In her own words, Bre Cole explains how music became a tool in her life:
” Music is my way of expressing myself in ways others will understand me. Music is more than another way to get money; it’s diverse, expressive, lovely and passionate. My goal as an artist is not only to tell my story, but to also cut down on the music industry stereotypes, such as, only getting money, clothes, and thots (girls). I feel this image is played out and it’s time to revive the music culture entirely. We should start by speaking truth about life and life experiences in the world we live in,”
Bre Cole’s vision is a strong one that will change the culture of music. There’s no doubt people will not stand about behind it.
